Hello there! And thanks for coming by for my turn on the Moda Size Matters blog hop. Have you enjoyed the other stops so far? So many great blocks and talented designers! Everyone will be posting a free quilt block this week, and then Moda will have quilt assembly instructions over on their blog on the 16th.
If you are new here, my name is Camille Roskelley, and I am one half of Bonnie and Camille. Bonnie is my mom, and if you are following the hop, you'll be stopping by her blog tomorrow. We design fabric for Moda together (in fact, we just sent in our 10th line!) and each have a pattern company.
Mine is called Thimble Blossoms and I started it back in 2007. Since then I've written two books, Simplify and Simply Retro for Stash Books, designed a whole bunch of quilt patterns, taught a quilting class over at Craftsy (I have another class on the way next month) and just released a brand new line of Aurifil thread. It's been a busy 6 years to say the least!
I also have three little boys that keep me on my toes, and love to sew any chance I get. Which more often than not is far too late at night! I'm often asked how I get so much done, and here's the answer, right here. Meet Route 44 dirty Dr. Pepper. (Dirty just means it has coconut syrup in it, in case you were worried.)
Yep, 44 ounces of pure deliciousness and sewing energy. Roughly the size of 3 Jelly Rolls, it turns out.
I've tried several of the sizes at Sonic, and once I made the mistake of trying this one here trying to "cut back a bit." Yes, that tiny thing there on the right.
Which felt like about .4 oz of pure deliciousness. I don't recommend this approach. I didn't get much sewing at all done that night. So to sum up, size at Sonic, definitely matters.
Size also matters in quilt blocks. I learned this a few years ago when I designed my Swoon quilt. I decided to try making it into 24" blocks, and am so happy with how it turned out! This was also the beginning of my large block obsession.
When I was making my block for the blog hop back before Spring Quilt Market, I started with a 6" block, then used that as the center of a 12" block, and then used the 12" block for the center of a 24" block. Easy, and makes a big impact! Making a quilt out of just 9 of these blocks and some sashing would yield an 80" quilt. With just 9 blocks!
Did I mention one of you is going to be the lucky recipient of this Scrumptious fat eighth bundle? True story.
Just leave me a comment below telling me which of the patterns in my shop is your favorite and your favorite color at the moment, and you'll be entered to win.
And since we always have a little sale along with the hop, you can get any of my patterns (paper or PDF) for 20% off this week using code MODA20. Simple as that! Oh, and don't forget to stop back by on the 16th to see if you won. My favorites right now? Probably Niner. And aqua. I'm such a sucker for anything aqua. You might have noticed? ;-)
Whew, that was a lot of talking. I might need a trip to Sonic.
Don't forget to stop by all the other Moda designer blogs. There's a list of all of them right here. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck! As for me, I've got some sewing to do...
Update: This giveaway is closed, you can find the winner here. Thanks everyone!
