I have a confession to make. It makes me ridiculously happy every single time I see a Swoon block. And to be completely honest, I swear to you I haven't seen a single one that I haven't loved.
You people are amazing.
So, I hope those of you whose photos I borrowed don't mind, I'm going to show you off today. Make sure you visit the links so you can see everything else these clever girls are up to.
edit- Umm... I didn't realize until I started copying links how many blocks there were in the pool, but I didn't want to leave anyone out! I tried to just put one block from each person in the group, if I missed yours I promise it was not intentional, and please let me know! If you would like your photo removed, of course I can do that too.
Sorry about the other day. Even though the boy is pulling wipes out of the wipe container one at a time while I write this, things are so much better over here now. My parents came and went, and everything is back to normal crazy instead of overwhelming crazy. My mom and I worked our guts out, ate great food, and stayed up way too late. Thank goodness for grandpa who took Nic on bike rides and entertained him (and followed him up and down the stairs), who met the boys for lunch at school, and helped out with school pick-ups/drop-offs. I have fantastic parents, it's true. (Thanks, guys.) Aside from the BYU game, it was a perfect weekend.
Anyhow, something I have been meaning to post about for months now, is this cute girl,
and this completely adorable bag she made me, inspired by the sugar rush quilt from my book. Isn't it lovely?
If you haven't read Kristyne's blog, you are in for a treat. She is witty, her photography is gorgeous, and she sews at lightning speed. I hope she doesn't kill me for borrowing a whole bunch of photos to show you... also, her Farmer's Wife blocks are to die for. You've been warned.
In an attempt to use up some of her stash, Kristyne started Project Simplify and sewed her way through my book and donated the quilts to many different charities and causes. (She has now started sewing the quilts as minis, and already I'm dying.) Here are a few of her projects, all from her stash, might I add. Impressive.
Guess this whole post is really meant to be a big fat thank you to Kristyne. Thank you for making my heart happy every time a new post showed up in my reader, for your clever posts, and for choosing my silly little book to do so much good. And to all of you, like Kristyne, who make my job what it is and make beautiful projects from my book and patterns. I know I've said it before, but it just makes me so happy.
Wait, what? It's been a week? How is that even possible?
Umm, people, I'm drowning a little over here. In strikeoffs, proposals, emails, putting together a new fabric line, sewing my brains out for something else, with no room to move (all the furniture is in the kitchen and hallways because the carpets were cleaned), without a car (because my van has a screw in the tire and the new tire has to be special ordered) and with the grouchiest baby you've ever seen. Not sure what is going on with him. I'm thinking teeth.
Sorry to be all complainy, I'm having a day... yep, it happens. (sorry)
But my mom is coming today, and I'm pretty sure she is going to fix everything.
Melanie Bean who said "I love your little dish soap apron and will definitely be making one for mine!! What a cute idea! My current favorite is Bliss (which I was very excited to find at my local quilt shop just recently, since it is kind of hard to find) I just started quilting about two months ago so when I came across your blog and that fabric line I knew I had to have it..."
Julie who said "Mmmmmm, Hawaii is my dream too! I love Summer House fabric but Ruby looks really inviting too. Lovely blog!"
Cecilia Young "My current favorite collection is Amelia by Me & My Sister. Thanks for the cute apron pattern. :)
Girls, email me your mailing address and I'll get those right out to you.
I'm Camille Roskelley, mom to 3 boys, wife to Jarom, owner of one lazy yellow lab.
My little company is called Thimble Blossoms and I am a quilter, designer, fabric hoarder and Dr. Pepper connoisseur. Lover of aqua, red gray and green and all things quilting. This is my very favorite quilt at the moment:
My Farmer's Wife (in progress) is probably my second favorite.
What is my favorite fair food?
Funnel cakes. Hands down. OH MY GOODNESS I love me a funnel cake. I want to try making these at home one of these days. Yum.
What is my guilty pleasure?
Cafe Rio's steak tacos with the fam every Saturday. They know us there. In fact, the manager gave us a congratulatory dessert when our baby was born. Also pinterest. Ohhh, I love pinterest.
What is on my bucket list?
At the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember has been "Drive across the Golden Gate bridge". I finally got to do that a year or so ago and it was awesome. Now at the top of the list? Hawaii. I've wanted to visit Hawaii my whole life, and am determined to get there one day. (Husband, you reading this?)
What inspires my work?
Hmm.. this is always such a tricky question to answer. It sounds so silly to say everything, but really, everything? Bathroom tile, antique quilts... just regular doodling in the school pickup lane. Sometimes a certain fabric just calls for a certain quilt design. Can't really explain it without sounding a little crazy.
Now about my project for the blog hop... Well, kind of a funny story. When we got married, one of Jarom's great aunts gave us a funny little apron for our dish soap. When we opened the gift and saw an apron on a shiny new bottle of dish soap, we laughed and laughed, then promptly set it next to our sink. It lived there for 5 years, all lacey and fancy, always a topic of conversation when people visited our little apartment. Eventually the apron had seen better days, and the lace had just about had it, so we took the apron off. It was a sad day.
When I heard about the Moda country fair, this was the first project I thought of. And now I'm going to tell you how you can make your dish soap as fancy as ours.
You'll need:
2 Ruby Layer Cake squaress (or any pieces of fabric that are big enough to fit the template)
1 package of extra wide double fold bias tape
10" x 10" piece of cotton batting
Instructions:
1. Open the apron template here, save/drag it to your desktop. Print the template, making sure it is at 100%. It should measure 7-1/4" from side to side if printed correctly.
2. Make a quilt sandwich with two layer cake squares and cotton batting. Pin the apron template on top. Cut around it at the edge.
3. Quilt it however you'd like, I quilted mine in 5/8" increments with my walking foot. Easy! Trim the threads that are hanging over the edge.
4. Stitch a small piece of bias tape on side (2).
5. Pin and stitch bias tape along the bottom side (1) of the apron, 1/8" from the inside edge.
6. Pin the bias tape to the apron as shown below. Leave 8" of extra bias tape on the left side. Fold tape ends under and stitch 1/8" from the edge. Follow along side (3) leave a bit of extra at the top, as shown below, then continue stitching along side (4). Leave 8 more inches.
7. Tie it on your curviest dish soap, and make one for everyone you know, including your great aunt who might need a new one.
(Isn't she pretty?)
Oh, and if you want to watch this video from Schoolhouse at Quilt Market where I talk about the apron go ahead. I can't. Too painful. Do I really sound like that??
Don't forget to stop by Edyta's tomorrow for her project, and continue with the rest of the Moda designers all month long.
I almost forgot, if you want to win a Ruby jelly roll or a pack of Ruby/Moda treats, leave a comment here, and tell me your favorite fabric line EVER. (Thank you Moda for the fabric!)
That's it for me. Better get back to work. It's going to be a late night, and there are kids to get to school tomorrow morning, a baby to chase up and down the stairs, and about a thousand things to cross of my list tomorrow. Don't feel too bad for me, most of them involve fabric.
Good luck! And happy country fair to you all.
**Thank you everybody for entering! This contest is closed, see the winners here.**
A few days ago this little peanut turned 9 months old.
Don't let that sweet little smile deceive you, this child is a handful!
He climbs the stairs and tries to walk back down them while holding onto the banister.
He can't pass an outlet without trying to stick his fingers in the little holes (don't worry, they are all covered now).
He darts for his brother's room any chance he gets so he can play with the big boys. And their Legos.
He is this close to being able to climb out of the tub.
To say that I have to keep a close eye on this one is an understatement.
He is always, always, always on the go.
But life with him is so, so sweet. And certainly never boring. We adore this kid. All of us. Especially those big brothers he wants to be just like. And his dad. And me. (Especially me)
I love every single thing about this boy, including his big brown eyes, that firey little personality he was born with, and his Kennedy-esque hair.
(have you ever seen a smile that fake in your whole life?)
(now you have, and here's another...)
(good grief)
Which means me and this guy are on our own...
It's going to be interesting.
I can't believe it is September already. You? Did you know that September is National Sewing Month? Yeah, neither did I... but I do now! Moda is celebrating with a designer blog hop during the month of September.
It is called the Moda Country Fair, and there will be all kinds of great projects, giveaways, and more good stuff. You can read more about it here, at the Moda Cutting Table.
It all starts September 6th over at Sandy's blog...
